Earl Edward Sherwood, 93, passed away on December 3, 2024, at his long time home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on Sept. 14, 1931 to Ed and June Sherwood, who predeceased him.  As a young man, his family and their business would be displaced due to the Manhattan Project and the governments need for the land on what would become Oak Ridge.  He would serve four years in the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War.  Upon returning to Anderson County after the war, he would meet his future bride,  build his own home and raise a family in Clinton.

Earl worked 42 years for the Tennessee Valley Authority, retiring in 1994.  Upon retirement he would continue to work the family farm, raising cattle and gardening.  He was a regular figure splitting rails at the Museum of Appalachia's Annual Homecoming.

He is a long-term member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton and served for many years with the Clinton Lions Club.

Earl was the classic example of hard work and dedication.  He was a man who was immensely proud and protective of his family.

Earl is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Delora; his daughter Pamela Gray (Stacy); and grandson, Nik.  He is survived by his brother, James; sister-in-law, Nel Shrader  (Ron); and several nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by Ingunn Birger, his AFS daughter, from Norway, who held a special place in his heart.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 15th from 2-3:30 p.m. at Holley Gamble Funeral Home, 621 S. Charles Seivers Blvd, in Clinton.   A brief service will be held beginning at 3:30 p.m.  There will be a private graveside service at a later date.

The family would like to give special appreciation to Ellen Wise who has cared for the Sherwood's for months and to the University of Tennessee Hospice Nurses who showed so much love and support for not only Earl, but the entire family.
