Obituary


Earl Dean Portwood, of Clinton passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his home. He was born in Morgan County and spent his early childhood there. He and his family moved to Clinton in 1938 and later served in the United States Army during World War II. He was supervisor at Magnet Mills in Clinton and later was employed at Martin Marietta from which he retired. He was an active member of South Clinton Baptist Church until he suffered a stroke in 2011. Preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Minnie (Woods) Portwood; brothers, Charles, Wayne, Jack, and JB; sister-in-law, Aileen Portwood; nephews, Gary and Rock Portwood.

He is survived by:

Wife Marilyn Dew Portwood

Daughters Angela (Scott) Fleming

Sharon (Sam) Moore

Grandsons. Russell (Jill) Moore

Matthew (Carrie) Moore

Great grandchildren.. Henry, Charlie, Dylan, Halle, and Maggie Moore

Sister-in-law Maxine Portwood

Nieces and nephews Teresa Portwood, Steve Portwood, Susan Lehman, and

Devin Portwood

The family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 pm, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at South Clinton Baptist Church. The service will follow with Dr. Roger Pugh officiating. His burial will be 2:00 pm, Sunday at Grandview Memorial Garden with full military honors at graveside. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to South Clinton Baptist Church, 1000 Clinch Avenue, Clinton, TN 37716.
