In Loving Memory of David Scott Winchester

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Scott Winchester, 55, born on April 19, 1971, who passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma.

To know Scott was to know a man who found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Whether he was in a tree stand before daylight, listening for a gobbling turkey on a spring morning, casting a line, or sharing stories around a campfire, he felt most at home in God’s creation. He had a deep appreciation for the natural world and a passion for passing those traditions on to the people he loved.

Above all else, Scott’s greatest pride was his family. He was the best husband to his wife, Jill, and a rock when she needed him. Their 35 years together were among the greatest blessings of his life, and he cherished every moment they shared. He was a loving father whose guidance, strength, and steady presence shaped the lives of his sons. More recently, nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than becoming a grandfather. The love he had for his grandson, Dester, was immediate and unconditional, and the time they spent together, though far too short, will be treasured forever. He was a proud son to his parents, a loving brother to his sister, and a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Scott dedicated 35 years of his career to Cooper Company Computers, where he was respected for his hard work, integrity, and unwavering dedication. He carried the same work ethic into every aspect of his life, earning the admiration of coworkers, customers, and friends alike.

Scott faced his illness with remarkable courage, determination, and dignity. Even in the hardest moments, he showed the same grit and quiet strength that had defined his entire life. His perseverance inspired everyone who walked alongside him.

Scott’s faith in Jesus Christ sustained him throughout his journey, and his family finds peace and comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into the presence of his Savior. While his earthly journey has ended, they rejoice in the promise that they will see him again.

He will be remembered for his generous heart, his unwavering loyalty, his sense of humor, and his willingness to help anyone at any time. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the traditions he created, and the countless memories shared with family and friends.

Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Jill Winchester; his sons, Ryan Winchester (Lucy), and Evan Winchester; his treasured grandson, Dester Winchester; his parents, Sherrel and Dolores Winchester; his sister, Sherry Smith (Mike), as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever miss him.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace and that his spirit lives on in every story shared, every sunrise in the woods, every spring gobble echoing through the hills, every cast across quiet water, and every adventure enjoyed by those he loved.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at Glory Church at Dante on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Scott’s memory make donations to the American Cancer Society’s Melanoma Campaign.
