Charles passed away April 3, 2013 at St Mary's Hospital. Charles was born in Cumberland Gap TN and spent his childhood in Southwest Virginia. He played high school football and basketball at Gate City High School. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart Betty Yoakley and attended East Tennessee State University and University of Tennessee. In the early 50's he began working at K-25 (Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion) until his retirement in 1995. Charlie enjoyed playing bridge and golf, gardening and was an avid reader. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Callie and his first wife Betty. He is survived by wife Derita who devotedly cared for him during his illness, daughter Carolyn (Ron) Honeycutt, granddaughter Monica Hill, great-grandchildren Meghanne and Caelan Hill. His surviving step-family are daughters Lisa Bullock and Amy Hamby-Scott (Don Scott), grandchildren Zach Bullock, Lindsey (Jake) Lowe, Laken Scott and Donovan Scott, and great-grandchildren Makyla Bullock and Jaxon Lowe.
The family will receive friends at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5-7PM with the funeral service to follow at 7:00PM with the Pastor Steve Damos and Pastor Bruce Martin officiating. The interment will be held at the Carter McKinney Cemetery in Virginia on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church at 131 West Gettysburg Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or West Village Christian Church at 637 Robertsville Road Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
