Challis Broughton of Clinton died January 27, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born June 1, 1949, in Baughman, Kentucky, to Arthur and Abner Broughton. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1969. He was a graduate of Union College in Barbourville, KY and completed graduate studies at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Energy in Oak Ridge.
Challis was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Dillard and Charles Broughton. He is survived by his wife Carol Morrison Broughton, daughter Mary Margaret and Anthony Hensley of Claxton, son Jason and Kelly Broughton of San Diego, stepdaughters Cher and Troy Price of Clinton and Kym and Kreis Stone of Knoxville, grandchildren Amber Hensley, Braden Hensley, and Lilian Broughton, and step grandchildren Macy and Bailey Price.
He is also survived by brothers and sisters Floyd and Louis Broughton of Virginia Beach, VA; Shirley and Charlie Campbell of Brownstown, MI; Bill Broughton of Shelby Township, MI; Jerry and Carol Broughton of Monroe, MI; Dora and Charles Welch of Ocala, FL; Gary Broughton of Morristown, TN; Deborah and Marty Wolary of Morristown, TN; and sister-in-law Lou Broughton of Washington, MI. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Receiving of friends will be Sunday, January 29th from 5:30-7 PM at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. There will be a private graveside service held for Challis. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.holleygamblefh.com
