Obituary

Carol Anne O’Connor Naughton of Martin, TN, died on August 10, 2026.

She was born May 19, 1949, to Lt. Colonel Robert O’Connor and Eula Mae “Terry” Bath in Fort Riley, Kansas. She grew up in Japan and Europe, later settling in McLean, VA, along with her three brothers Kris, Clint, and Mike.

In 1972, she married the love of her life, Tom Naughton, Jr. and relocated to Martin, TN, where they raised their two children, Thomas III and Megan.

Carol was beautiful and talented, a friend to all creatures, and possessed a curious mind, sharp wit, and wicked sense of humor.

She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, for the things she created, being the voice of and for animals, as the consummate hostess, and her impeccable style. Above all, she prized her mind, making her battle with Alzheimer’s especially cruel.

In addition to her husband and children, she leaves behind daughters-in-law Robyn Naughton and Christie Naughton, and grandchildren, Thomas IV and Catherine.

Carol will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, where a private memorial will be held. The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of Morning Pointe in Clinton, TN. We will cherish the kindness, love, and care they showed Carol and those she loved during the final season of her life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the National Humane Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Alzheimer’s Association.
