With heavy hearts, the family of Boyd Wendell Courtney announces his peaceful passing at home on the morning of October 12, 2025, surrounded by those he loved. Boyd was 74 years old.

Born on June 6, 1951, in Clinton, Tennessee, Boyd was the son of the late Samuel and Gatha Courtney (Wilson). He spent most of his life in Clinton, though he also lived in Mims and Titusville, Florida.

Boyd was a man of many talents—he built homes, restored cars with a specialty in paint and body work, and raised bees. His hands-on skills and resourcefulness made him remarkably self-reliant. He approached life with creativity and innovation, and his deep knowledge of gardening and foraging in the Appalachian Mountains was a gift he eagerly shared. Boyd had a passion for teaching the "old ways," especially to his children and grandchildren.

Boyd was married to Joyce Bruneau (Rigsbee) for 25 years. They had 3 children together, Jeremy, Jason, and Rebecca. Although they divorced, Boyd and Joyce remained friends until the end of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Gatha, and his brothers John and Roy Courtney. He is survived by his sisters Sarah Sharp, Katherine (David) Lawhorn, and Barbara (David) Deppensmith; brothers James Courtney and David (Lisa) Courtney; children Jeremy, Jason, and Rebecca Courtney; and grandchildren Jodi Savage (Jason), Luke and Jeremy Tyler Courtney (Jeremy), and Ashlynn and Emma Courtney (Rebecca). Boyd also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish his memory.

Boyd will be laid to rest at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 in Pleasant View Cemetery, close to his "home place" in the mountains of East Tennessee which he loved so dearly.
