Barbara Stooksbury Young, aged 91, passed away peacefully in her home on March 3, 2025. She was born on December 18, 1933, to the late Ernest and Alverta Stooksbury. She spent her childhood in Anderson County. Following her high school graduation, she attended Business College & moved to Knoxville, where she started her career in Banking. Barbara enjoyed attending the symphony, traveling, & gardening. She enjoyed traveling with her friends in her early years. One of her favorite trips was to the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. She met her husband, Brown F. Young on one of her trips. Barbara & Brown enjoyed traveling to the different areas of the United States. She raised a garden at her family home until she was 90 years old. Both friends and family coveted her canned green beans. Barbara & her sister, Loretta, were great supporters of the Museum of Appalachia. They participated in the Fall Homecoming for many years, where they demonstrated the age-old method of washboard laundry.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Brown F. Young; sisters, Helen & Loretta Stooksbury; brother, Wilbur Stooksbury; cousins, Malcom Hill & Joan Stooksbury Brown.

Those left to mourn her passing: cousins Beverly Stooksbury Leitner, Lisa Stooksbury Tavangaran, Elnora Logan, Mary Margaret Ridenour, Katherine Kron, Sammy Hill, Gail Loving, & Brian Hill; nieces Libby Cordray & Nancy Polanski; stepbrother Bill Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow in the chapel.  Her graveside will immediately follow at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery in Andersonville. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mount Pleasant Church at 640 Ridge Circle Rd, Andersonville, TN 37705.
