Alma Jean Hooks, 81 of Claxton, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father, surrounded by family. Awaiting her arrival was her husband of 58 years, Bill Hooks. Jean was a faithful member of Edgemoor Baptist Church and the Thirty Niners Sunday School Class. She was the daughter of the late Ulysess and Mary Webber. Also preceded by brothers, Lawrence and Curtis Webber and sister, Viola Weaver.
Jean is survived by sister, Joyce Webber and sister in-law, Marvella Webber. Jean was a loving and caring mother to her surviving daughter, Kathy (Steve) Edsell of Smyrna, TN, and son and special daughter in-law, Billy and Kay Hooks. She was Mamaw to grandkids, Tim (Cheryl), Brad (Mary) and Todd (Elizabeth) Hooks, Chris and Barry Edsell, Missy (Don) Thigpen; great grandmother of Elliot, Isaac, Ava, Rylan, Taygen, and Talan Hooks, Kelsey Dailey, Emily Thigpen and Drake Briscoe. She also leaves behind special niece, Tinsey and husband, Glen Meridieth and many other nieces and nephews; very special friends, Luther and Katy Maples.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Rivers, Dr. Waller and the staff in ICU and IMC at Fort Sanders for their loving care of Jean during this difficult time.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 27, 2011, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton from 6-8PM. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 8 o'clock with Rev. Rick Miller officiating. Family and friends will meet at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 10:45A.M. for interment at11:00A.M. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
